Magic Only Works When You're Not Lying to Yourself

If you’ve been around my work, you’ve probably heard me talk about the three magical axioms. They’re foundational to Liberation Magic. And today I want to talk about one of them: Paradox is life’s organizing principle.

This one can be hard to wrap your head around, but it’s everywhere in magical practice. And one of the most powerful paradoxes is this:
Magic only works when it’s rooted in reality.

People often assume magic is all fantasy - wishing on candles, saying pretty words, hoping the stars will rearrange your life. But that totally misses the point.

Magic is the most ancient transformation technology we have.

And for that technology to work, you have to know what you’re working with.

You have to get close (sometimes uncomfortably close) to the parts of your life you’re trying to change.
You have to study them, feel them, name them.
That’s where the power lives.

You can’t cast a meaningful spell if you’re avoiding the truth.

Real magic works the way acupuncture works.

You have to know the system you’re working with. You have to understand where the block is, what’s causing the stagnation, where the energy isn’t flowing. Only then can you insert the needle — the spell, the ritual, the sacred act — exactly where it’s needed.

Like a skilled acupuncturist, a magical practitioner doesn’t guess.
We listen to the body of life.
We track the meridians of cause and consequence.
And we insert the needle, not just to relieve pain, but to awaken possibility.

Magic is about facing the parts of your life that feel stuck with clear eyes and an open heart, and crafting a spiritual intervention that lands like a needle: exactly where the transformation wants to happen. Precise and transformative.

It’s not about the right candle color.
Or a crystal (though I do love a good crystal).
Or, Goddess forbid, crushed velvet.

It’s not about bypassing your problems with pretty tools.

It begins with facing the reality you want to change, not with shame or fear, but with courage, clarity, and sacred skill.

Transformation requires both courage and clarity. And I want you to have the sacred skill that so many people are never taught. Tools that actually work, not because they’re mystical, but because they’re true.

This is why I teach Liberation Magic. Because you deserve tools that actually work.

Courage, truth, and infinite love,

I don’t believe in magic, but I know that it works!

Magic is not a belief system, it’s a practice that works. Don’t believe me? Come try it out. If it doesn’t work, you lose nothing. But if it does… your dream life is about to begin!

Hi Reader, I genuinely believe that we’re each the curators of our own experience, even though I forget it all the time. I don’t mean curator as in “only look at my apparent fabulousness on social media” sort of way. I mean the deeper way I get to choose where I put my energy, my attention, my focus, my love… I can decide what story I tell myself, who I hang out with, what I eat. Every little decision shapes my life, and curates my reality, if you will. Reality is layered. There are thousands...

Hi Reader, I’ve been dancing for years, but I still take classes, because there’s always more to learn. One of the reasons I love dance so much is how literal it is as a lesson for life and relationships. The other day in class, the teacher was explaining how the follower should surrender into the arms of the leader, but keep one foot back for stability. That way, if the leader doesn’t know the move or loses balance, the follower still has their own grounding. What I heard was:Yes, surrender...

Hi Reader, There was a night, many years ago, when I was sitting on my kitchen floor, wailing, as one does when one’s life has just imploded. My boyfriend had dumped me, my physical health was absolute crap, and I had no clue what I wanted anymore. I had two choices:Keep numbing, blaming, spiraling.Or remember what my grandmother taught me: magic is what you reach for when nothing else works. And here’s what happened: I didn’t get an overnight miracle. But slowly, I learned how to stay calm...
